I got the information and article off the Lance Armstrong web site I decided to take a listen to the new album. It will soon be added to my collection. It so nice to hear that positive sound and up beat tempos. I love Backwards World! Best of luck to family and friends who are helping to keep his memory alive through the langauge of music, one that knows no time and no barriers. Best Wishes, G.

I saw a profile on Josh awhile back and loved the music I'd heard. I wrote down his name, planning to find his cd. When I went to get the cd, I realized I'd lost the piece of paper his name was on. So I started asking everyone if they'd heard of any stories like Josh's. No one was able to put me on the right track and I thought I'd lost my chance to hear more of Josh's music. Today, I was paging through one of my many notebooks and there on one of the insides covers was Josh's name. I can't wait to go and get the cd. The best part is that I was having a down day and finding Josh's name really brightened things up. I just wanted to share. Blessings- Cricket

i was downloading from audiogalaxy.com when i came across an article about an album from the former school of fish frontman. i was instantly transported to 1991 when 3 strange days was being played on the radio. there was a live version that i managed to tape off the radio as well. beautiful music... it meant alot to me at a time when not much else mattered. i am shocked and saddened to read of Josh's passing. but i am grateful for the chance to experience his music. peace to all

I'm so glad you want to sing along! You can find the lyrics in the "Spirit Touches Ground" section of the site. Just click there and you'll see "Lyrics" as an option. Josh would love to know people are singing his songs.

I had never heard of Josh until the GMA piece, and then I was obsessed with finding the STG CD. I have played it over and over, and still am not tired of it. The songs reach out and touch you every time. I wish Josh were still around making music..I feel like we've all been robbed in a way. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the lyrics to the STG CD...I've looked all over this site, but haven't been able to find them. I'm annoying my children by singing the songs all the time, but not really knowing all the lyrics!! Help!! Thanks, Melissa

I'm sitting here looking at your picture. It's now up on my birth wall (the baby's due in two weeks.) Missing you doesn't get easier but I know we are still sharing a connection and experiences, just from different realms. I am so proud of you and so excited about your record. I've been listening to it for a long time now and it just grows more beautiful with each listen. I know you are listening and watching so....send me a little birth mojo...how does a seven hour labor sound???? I'm having a home birth with midwives and friends present, so I know you'll be dropping by. See you then. Love and miss you. Nicky

Responding to a message a few down, my young boys also respond to Josh's music instinctively. My youngest, Runar, told me that a boy at school is "mean"...he said that he tries to see him with his "diamond eye and make him a friend instead of a bully"...i thought that was pretty insightful for a 3 1/2 year old. Runar also recently visited a new preschool and was putting together a puzzle of insects and told his prospective teacher that she could "let the dragonfly come and give her a ride" if she wanted... Josh's music speaks to all of us, all ages...as true beauty and wisedom often do.

I saw the GMA w/Josh several weeks ago and went out the next day to purchase the new CD. Something compelled me. I work at home, but don't usually watch the television while I work. That morning I had been watching the local news and just didn't turn it off. I got up from my office chair - the TV being in a different room - for some reason just as they began to talk of Josh. After listening to the CD over and over (and over and over), I realize Josh has a way of speaking to a listener that I could only dream of (being a singer/songwriter myself). I decided earlier this year to go on a Vision Quest because I have been searching for ... I'm not sure what. I feel like there have been reasons for everything in my life since that time - and this is one of those things. What a loss for the world of music, but a wonderful bonus for the spirit world. May his spirit live in all of us.

Hi Alisa-thanks for your interest in Descendants of the Earth. Yes, Josh is still helping them from above and there will be a memorial benefit concert in Josh's name for Descendants in April... if you live in the Los Angeles area then just attending it will help this cause. Stay tuned here for info. Otherwise for more details about Descendants go to: http://descendantsoftheearth.org/

During the summer of 1999 I was at Camp Winnebego in Maine at the post camp week after all the boys leave and families and friends of the camp owners come for a vist. During that time Josh was there. He was there with Henry. At the time I was rehearsing Our Town and I was playing Emily. I remember Josh approaching me on the shore of Echo Lake while I was rehearsing my lines. We got to chatting and sharing about performing and being artists. I remember expressing to him the line in the play that I thought was most potent and most beautiful "Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it--every, every minute?" He seemed like someone who was doing that. He was alive! When he shared his songs with us they were ALIVE, and he was immensely present. Though I only knew him for that week, when I heard of his passing it touched me in a very profound way. I just went to Tower Records last week and bought Spirit Touches Ground. I am so thankful to have his gift. He is indeed, an angel who touched down to show us how to live, even if he was in our lives for only just a minute. Peace..Heidi

Hi. I'm not sure who to address this to...so I guess I'll just write and whoever feels like this is intended for you can comment on the message board or send me an e-mail. I had been reading old messages on the board and saw a recent one that talked about the attempts for funding for the Decendants fo the Earth project. I re-read the letter that Josh had written about his experience with this community and was touched by much it meant to him. I also have a great respect for the Earth and the Native American ways, which are actually timeless ways. So, I guess my question is that the message re: the Decendants of the Earth sounded like they were definitely in a financial crossroad and that there was a time limit to resolve it. Was the financial goal met? and if not, is it to late to help? And so, what could I do? Thanks! Alisa

I recently found out about Josh's passing and, even though I never got the chance to meet him, was extremely saddened to hear the news. Many, many years ago, I had the opportunity to see him perform in San Francisco with School of Fish. Shortly before the show, the band's tour manager told the drummer that one of his parents has passed. I remember standing there wanting to say something to him but not knowing what. The band decided to continue with the show. I think it was that incident that made Josh's voice sounded different to me. The show took on such a sad feeling to me because of the drummer's situation, that I listened to the music differently. I still listen to my School of Fish albums and think about that night. I hear the lyrics and the cracks in Josh's voice. Even writing this makes me teary eyed. Since getting the latest CD and hearing about his death, I have had an overwhelming desire to send the family my condolences. I'm glad you were able to have the time you did with Josh. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us. Sincerely, Jessica

To Josh's family and friends: After watching the GMA spot re: Josh, I immediately ordered the CD of Spirit Touches Ground from a local music store. Builing Atlantis just spoke to me and I was eager to hear more. It is such beautiful and soulful music. I love it! It is so clear to me what an incredible spirit Josh must have been in this world and, no doubt, still is. Thank you so much for sharing his music with the rest of us. What a beautiful gift!!

About a week ago, we were driving down the road and I put on Josh's CD. "No, not that again", my son sighed, knowing how smitten I've become with the music. I played it anyhow. It was into the second or third song and I glanced over at my son. He'd put his gameboy away and was just singing along, enjoying the music in spite of his intentions not to. And that's how Josh's music just reaches out, grabs you and brings you joy. I too am glad that the music was finally "freed" and is being made known to the people and I'm hoping that the word does spread like wildfire and more and more people can be privy to Josh's talents to enjoy the pleasure of his melodies. Thanks to his family for their fortitude and thanks to Josh for creating and sharing his artistry with us.

I got this overall John Lennon vibe to the music. I've been poking around the site and was very impressed by his family & friends not letting Josh's music disappear. Thank you.

I just wanted to say that my prayers are with Josh's family. I had seen him open for Tori Amos about 5 or 6 years ago. His performance was powerful, energetic and over all surprising. I immediately bought his CD. I have not been a faithful follower but I do remember what kind of an effect he had on me through his music. Honestly I want to Thank Josh for his giving of himself to the world. I am proud to know of his music. Love and prayers to his family and friends.

I was listening to KCRW in the car this afternoon and a song was playing. After it finished the DJ announced that it was Josh Clayton-Felt. I told my wife, I know him, I wonder how he's doing. The last time I saw him was at the Hollywood Farmer's market on a Sunday (near Hollywood and Vine). I was playing bass on the street with a jazz band. We said hello and he gave me his phone number, I sort of hoped I'd get a chance to play music with him some day. I don't know his music. I just knew that he was a nice guy who had been recording his music. I was glad for him that he was having some success but I never found out more about his music until today. I have often thought about him and wondered how he was doing. I had no idea that he had gotten sick and passed away. It sort of freaked me out when the DJ announced that the recording I'd heard was from the late Josh Clayton-Felt. I had a very brief moment with Josh. I met him in Malibu at the sweat lodge a couple of weaks prior to my going on a four day vision quest, I think it was April of 1997. We got to sweat and pray together. When I went on my vision quest, many people in the community were invited to come help support the people who were going to fast and pray for a vision. When I arrived in the mountains above Ojai, I still had a lot of work to do to prepare for my vision quest. Wolf and Lisa helped us find "helpers" to take the pressure off during the last hours of preparation. Josh volunteered to be my helper. He stayed with me the night before I set out and did anything that needed to be done. He carried things, held my eagle feather as I learned to tie the mother of pearl button onto it the correct way. We didn't talk much, he was just there, humble and helpful. Four days later, when I returned from praying in the mountains, he was still there. He had been helping the community while the vision questers were in the mountains. Wolf instructed us to divide into groups to share our insights from our experiences the previous four days and nights with those who had stayed behind at the camp in support of us. Josh was in my circle that day. Later, there was a feast and gifts were exchanged. I had an extra mother of pearl button and I gave it to Josh to have if he decided to go on his own vision quest sometime in the future. He seemed sincerely touched by it. I sort of dropped out of the sweat lodge community not long after that experience. I often wondered how Josh was and how his new recording was developing. It was many months later when, stoned out of my mind, I opened my eyes after playing a set of music in the hot sun on the streets of Hollywood, and saw Josh standing there in front of me. He had been listening for a while. I put my bass down and visited with him. I felt a little guilty that I had been away from the sweat lodge for so long and that I was totally stoned. The feeling passed. We exchanged numbers. He hadn't been to the lodge in a while either. It was good to see you, Josh. I am saddened that I'll never get a chance to see you again in this life.

In 1996 when I first began music journalism I had the opportunity to interview Josh. I remember him being very kind, and never wanting to speak ill of anyone. Although it was a telephone interview, his genuine nature prevailed and I've never forgotten him. I don't know how it happened that I missed the news of his passing in 2000, but this week when I received "Spirit Touches Ground" and learned what happened, I felt a very big loss... not only in terms of music, but that the world is missing one more beautiful soul. As I listen to "Spirit Touches Ground" I hope that I will learn to live my life to the fullest each day as Josh did. And for those of you who never got to speak with him, know that the kindness he exuded was genuine. He will certainly be missed.

The CD is beautiul and inspiring. I'm sorry that I didn't know his music sooner. The songs are beautiful. The last song, Dragonfly, is the perfect way to end this CD. I hope that many will find this CD so his music will live on through the ages. Again I'm sorry I didn't find his music sooner, but at least I am aware of this CD. I thank Josh for his gift of music and proving that real music from the heart still exists today.
